Mineral water interactions involve the physiochemical reactions between mineral solids and associated water. These interactions can be divided into precipitation-dissolutions reactions and adsorption-desorption reactions. The latter involves thermodynamic growth, or erosion, of a mineral structure’s ions controlled by the solubility of the minerals. Adsorption-desorption reactions involved the binding of ions on to the mineral surface. Both processes are not unrelated and often are indistinguishable on the mineral and water chemistry.
